What is Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO)?
Recruitment Process Outsourcing is a form of business process outsourcing (BPO) where an employer outsources or transfers all or part of its recruitment activities to an external service provider.
The RPO Alliance defines RPO to be a business relationship where a 3rdparty provider acts as a company's internal recruitment function for a portion or all of its jobs. RPO providers manage the entire recruiting/hiring process from job profiling through the onboarding of the new hire, including people, process, technology, and measurement. A properly managed RPO will improve a company's time to hire, increase the quantity and quality of the candidate pool, provide verifiable metrics, reduce cost and improve governmental compliance.
RPO differs greatly from providers such as staffing companies and contingent/retained search providers in that it assumes ownership of the design and management of the recruitment process and the responsibility of results. The biggest distinction between RPO and other types of staffing is Process. In RPO, the service provider assumes ownership of the entire process, while in other types of staffing the service provider is only part of a process controlled by the organization buying their services.

Are You Ready for RPO?
Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) is fast becoming a regular feature of
the Human Resources landscape. Just a few years ago many HR Directors –
particularly outside the US - had limited experience of RPO but a growing
number are now choosing an outsourced solution.
The RPO Alliance Special Interest Group (SIG) within the Human Resources Outsourcing
Association (HROA) represents leading solution providers whose client partnerships include
many top international companies. Recently, senior HR decision-makers from some of
those client organisations shared their ‘real-life’ experience of evaluating and implementing
RPO with three RPO Alliance SIG member firms – Alexander Mann Solutions, Kenexa
and Randstad Managed Services. Their insights and advice are presented in this paper.
